Prosecco comes from regions of Italy and is known as a sparking white wine that has gained its popularity from being known as a celebratory drink. You may of seen people drinking it for new jobs, finishing university or on their birthday! The history of Prosecco actually dates back to 200BC, however the Romans back in those days used to call it 'Puccino.'
National Prosecco Day was invented to be in August as Prosecco was originally known to be a summer drink, founded by Riondo Prosecco. And the name Prosecco actually comes from the Italian village of Prosecco which is also home to the Prosecco grape!
As Prosecco has grown in popularity throughout the years, it has actually become increasingly hard for supplier to keep up with demand. The enjoyment of Prosecco first started in the USA and came over the UK within years, in 2010 a quarter of Italian Prosecco was being exported to the UK! That is a lot of Prosecco!
