Where do friendships come from? And how do we celebrate them?
The meaning of friendship and the ideology behind it comes from ancient times. Many believe believe it came from Ancient Greece, in Athens. Numerous friendships have been made through the course of the worlds existence, which have led into changing humanity. Friendship has been encouraged and celebrated all over the world, people celebrate friendship is many different ways. Whether it be giving gifts or spending time together, there is even a national friendship day on the 30th of July!
History Of National Friendship Day
Joyce Hall, founder of the hallmark cards factory in the year 1930, created the idea of friendship day. This was due to the fact that the commercial gimmick of the greeting card was used to promote friendship day. In 1935 it was decided to celebrate a day in the honour of our friends and friendships. The reason to celebrate friendship day isn’t known, but we do know that the need for it was felt by the effects of first world war.
This occasion was to stop mistrust, hatred, discrimination and enmity among people across many countries. When national friendship day was finally announced a holiday, many countries decided to join the occasion and celebrate friendship day. This international holiday was made to forge a strong bond of friendship among people of various countries, despite their race, colour, gender, religion, ethnicity and many other factors.
